Tech predictions for 2016

Before 2015 in tech world everything was about smartphones alone. It’s all about better camera, RAM, processor and display quality. In 2015 we have seen many new tech innovations such as 4K TVs, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, 3D printing, drones, 360° videos and wearable tech. They are just in the starting stage. So in this post we are going to cover the most anticipated technology in 2016.

Tech Predictions for 2016

3D Touch

With Apple iPhone 6S and 6S plus Apple introduced a display technology called 3D Touch. 3D touch works on the concept of Peek and Pop. If you just lightly touch on the screen it just shows next screen in a small window or quick actions of the app. If you apply more pressure it actually opens the next screen or opens the app. Right now 3D touch is only available on Apple devices. In 2016 we are expecting 3D touch to be available to Android phones and more 3D touch supported iOS and Android apps.

3D Printing

3D printing or Additive Manufacturing is a process of creating a physical object from a 3D digital file. In 2016 we are anticipating more affordable and compact 3D printers. Also 3D printing expands it’s wings into more industries including Healthcare, Architecture, Fashion, Food, Automotive and Manufacturing.

Drones

Drone or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is a flying machine used for various purposes. These days drones are mainly used in shooting areal footage or surveillance or carrying goods. The cam quality of drones were not up to mark. By partnering with GoPro kind of companies drone companies can improve the quality of their cams. Still the goods carrying drones are in testing phase. In 2016 more sophisticated drones will be developed which can carry goods or even humans.  We are also expecting affordable drones for personal usage.

360° Camera

In 2015 we have seen Facebook and YouTube introducing 360° videos which is an immersive experience where we can navigate through the video. Although Facebook and YouTube supports 360° videos there are no handful 360° cameras available in the market. In 2016 we are expecting more companies to produce 360° cameras and customers will have more options available. Also we are expecting improved user experience and more social platforms to support 360° videos.

Virtual Reality

Starting from Google Cardboard, Oculus rift sponsored by Facebook and Samsung Gear VR, virtual reality has made it’s impact in the tech market. In 2016 we are expecting more durable and affordable VR devices with more sensors. Software developers will also come up with more innovative immersive virtual reality experience.

Augmented Reality

In 2015 Microsoft made it’s debut in Augmented Reality field with HoloLens. Augmented reality gives us holographic experience which interacts with real world. Augmented reality is still in it’s beta phase. In 2016 we will get more insights into AR and AR devices like HoloLens.

8K Displays

In 2015 we saw full HD, Retina Ready and 4K displays which is 2160p quality and we also got sneak peek into 8K displays which is 4320p resolution. Already YouTube supports 8K videos and it’s time that we upgrade our displays to 8K which is 4 times better than full HD and 2 times better than 4K display.

Wearable Tech

In 2015 Apple Watch, Moto 360 smartwatches rocked the market. Also we saw some fitness bands and activity trackers. In 2016 we are expecting more sensors and robust software in smartwatches. Also we are expecting more sophisticated and affordable fitness bands and activity trackers.

Li-Fi

Light Fidelity short for Li-Fi is a data transmission technology like Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi uses radio frequency signals to transmit the data. Where as Li-Fi uses electromagnetic spectrum of LED (Light Emitting Diodes) to transfer data which is 100 times faster than Wi-Fi. In 2016 we may see few Li-Fi devices in the market. But integration of Li-Fi into smartphones, PC and other tech devices may take one more year.

5G

In 2015 majority of countries experienced 4G with data access speeds between 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps. In mid 2016 we are expecting telecom companies to roll out 5G (5th Generation mobile network) which is 10 to 100 times faster than 4G i.e above 10 Gbps. May be in countries like India it may take till 2017 to experience 5G.

Self-Driving Cars

In 2015 Google’s self-driving car came onto the road and Tesla’s Model S car Autopilot mode is a big hit. Recently Tesla introduced car parking feature in Model S cars and it’s working like a charm. Although we can’t completely rely on self-driving cars, we are expecting more automotive companies to manufacture self-driving cars by integrating AI (Artificial Intelligence).
